Stay at our Mt. Pleasant Hotel and Go Geocaching!

Looking for something fun and exciting to do on your next vacation to Charleston? Have you thought about trying Geocaching? Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventurers equipped with GPS devices. The game is similar to an older game called Letterboxing but has been updated for the 21st century. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online.  The geocaches as located at a specific set of GPS coordinates that are given to players. The players then have to drive to those coordinates and attempt to find the hidden geocache container hidden at that location. Containers can be anything from Tupperware to a military ammunitions box. When you find the geocache, you are supposed to take something out of the cache and then leave something of equal value.  It’s sort of like hide-and-seek with GPS and prizes. It’s a ton of fun for the whole family, and kids will love traveling the city trying to find the treasure.

The Town of Mt. Pleasant, SC currently maintains four separate geocaches at these locations:

  • Patriot’s Point Nature Trail multi-stage geocache
  • Waterfront Memorial Park multi-stage geocache
  • Kearn’s Park geocache
  • Hamlin Park Trail geocache
