Mt. Pleasant Lodging for the Sweetgrass Festival!
The Charleston area of South Carolina is known for their southern hospitality, Lowcountry food and sweetgrass baskets among other things. African slaves brought the knowledge of basket weaving with them from West Africa. They took the local sweetgrass grown in the area and began weaving their traditional baskets from it. You can’t make a trip to Charleston without seeing dozens of vendors trying to sell these traditional Charleston baskets. Beautiful Mt. Pleasant, located just outside of downtown Charleston, even has a Sweetgrass Festival that celebrates the Gullah Geechee cultural heritage and these great baskets. Stay at waterfront hotels in Mt. Pleasant, SC to enjoy this great event!
The 2013 Annual Sweetgrass festival will be taking place on Saturday, June 1st from noon to 8 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant’s Waterfront Memorial Park.
