Charles Towne Landing is located where English settlers landed in the 1670s and established Charleston. The park depicts what life was like during that period and the park rangers even dress in 17th century costumes. Charles Towne Landing is a great place to learn all about life in the early days of Charleston. You can take a self-guided audio tour and trail around the area to learn all about it before heading in the 12-room museum inside the Visitors center; The vistors center will show the evolution of the colony during the first decade of it’s existence. Docked in the Ashley River is the Adventure- a 17th-century replica sailing ship! You can board the ship and look around to learn all about colonial trade with Caribbean and what life was like on the high seas. The park has a 22-acre natural habitat zoo, with animals that are native to the Charleston area. You might see a Great Blue Heron, wild turkeys, White-Tailed Deer, North American River Otters and maybe even a bobcat hanging out in the zoo. During the spring, the park event hosts archeological digs for kids to learn about the art of archeology and maybe find some great treasure.
