Awesome Historic Sites by Mt. Pleasant Hotels

Just because you are not staying in historic downtown Charleston, does not mean there are not great historic sites located close by.  The Mt. Pleasant area is full of great historic attractions that you should check out next time you stay in hotels near Charleston. Whether you want to look at naval ships, plantation houses or just great old architecture, check out these historic sites located by our Mt. Pleasant hotel:

Boone Hall Plantation – located in Mount Pleasant just a short drive up the road from the Shem Creek Inn.  Boone Hall Plantation is one of the oldest plantations still in operation as it has been producing crops for 320 years. The plantation is even listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house that sits there today is not the original wooden house that was constructed in the 1700s but the behind the house stands nine of the original slave cabins for the plantation dating back to 1790-1810.  There are several other great historic building and artifacts to be seen there.

Charles Pinckney National Historic Site- Check out the country estates of Constitution drafter and signer, Charles Pinckney, and learn about Revolutionary history.  The existing house on the site was built around 1828; four years after Charles Pinckney’s death by the family he sold the farm too. But archeologists have found the locations of several of the outlying buildings as well as three slave houses, which have been marked with bricks to note location and size of these buildings. George Washington even stopped at this historic site during his 1791 presidential tour of the south.
